Tea House “Mei-Tei”
The “Mei-Tei” Tea House is located on the former grounds of the Fujisaki Chobe Sake Brewery of Kimenzan. It is known locally as “eleven-ya” because eleven toji (chief brewers) were brought in from the Kansai region to brew sake. The teahouse is made up of three sake barrels taken from the original Fujisaki Chobe Brewery. The Mei-Tei Tea House marries the two ceremonial Japanese drinks: sake and tea. Participants are encapsulated in the cosmic sake barrels that juxtapose against the delicate tea ceremony. Fuyuko Kobori’s ceremony provides traditional roots within a contemporary atmosphere that aims to connect the history of Japanese tea and sake rituals.
