Sasama International Ceramics Festival
The Sasama International Ceramics Festival brings together potters from all over the world and is led by the internationally renowned potter, Shozo Michikawa. Michikawa invited Fuyuko Kobori to perform a tea ceremony during the 2015 festival. The ceremony took place within an installation by New York-based artist, Terry Rosenberg.
Sasama is a small village with a population of about 400 people, located in the mountains of central Shizuoka Prefecture. Fuyuko served local matcha made in Sasama in the tea room during the festival. Shidoro-yaki pottery, one of Enshu’s seven kilns (pottery said to have been taught by Kobori Enshu), returned home after a long absence.
